Hey guys. It's been a while since I posted a journal entry here. Probably like two years or so. My last entry was about my goals for the new year (2015). It's now 2017, and things are different.

Somehow, despite all of my struggles financially and emotionally and everything, I managed to save enough money to purchase... a new camera! I've had the Canon Rebel T3 for nearly six years. It's been a great partner in crime to me. I've treated it well and it's treated me well in return. I feel like I've done all I can with it, though. I'm trying to improve my skills and go for something that could potentially help make me some money -- something more serious.

I'd done a lot of research: image sample hunting, spec-comparisons, and review-reading... It all led me to the Canon EOS 6D. A great camera for a decent price. Probably the most appealing thing about besides its cost-effectiveness is that it's a full-frame sensor, something I have never used before. Something I'm very excited about. Because I've heard that once you go full-frame, it's nearly impossible to go back to a cropped sensor. The other great thing about the 6D that I'm looking forward to playing with is the built-in HDR mode. I know you can create HDR images using any camera, but for a beginner HDR-er like me, having the mode built in already will help me get into it more, I believe.

Originally, I thought I wanted to buy the Canon 5D Mark III, but after careful consideration and budgeting, I know I've made the right choice for me. I've placed the order; the 6D should be mine within the next few days.

So what's happening with my old camera? My older sister, a true photography amateur, is going to buy it from me. If I was rich, I'd just give it to her, but it's still in excellent working condition. There aren't even any scratches or wear on it; I'm very careful with my expensive toys, haha. I'll have both cameras until summer, though, so it will be interesting to be able to play with two very different ones.

I also took it upon myself to buy a new "walk around" lens. Since the camera is my latest extravagant purchase, I had to buy a cheap yet impressive lens. I already own the Canon 50mm f/1.8, so I did some more research and set my sights upon the Canon 40mm f/2.8! It's a pancake, and also a prime lens, with a nice aperture. So I should get some really nice crisp images. Expect my cats to be my first models, and perhaps the sky and snow to be my other models. Until I can find some real people to shoot.

I want to thank anyone who's been watching me for a while, specifically people who leave comments or add favorites frequently. It really means a lot and it shows me that maybe what I'm doing doesn't completely suck? Anyways, photography is my number one passion, along with photo-editing, and even if I do suck, I'm having fun and giving my life some sort of meaning in the process. It's basically keeping me alive lol.

While I don't think these objects are going to cure my anxiety or depression or make my life magically better in all regards, I do think it will add a touch of hope and magic to it. One of my main goals for this new year (well, we're a month and a half in, so it's not brand new, but you understand) is to take more photos. Even when I don't have much to photograph, I take to the sky at sunset (find me on Tumblr posting that stuff). It will be much easier to fulfill this goal with new equipment to experiment with. It will almost be like photographing everything for the first time again.

Anyways, sorry for babbling. I just wanted to update everyone, and... I'm really proud of me, and happy for myself, for finally being able to upgrade. It took a long time to get to this point and I'm excited.

Love and blessings,
 Ann

Hey guys. I just wanted to apologize for the inactivity on my part lately. I haven't posted new art since October, and it's almost January.

As most of you know (if you read my descriptions a lot), most of my photos were taken at one particular cemetery. It was my favorite place to go to snap some magical nature shots, or even a peaceful, quiet place to practice my self-portraiture. But ever since my car was vandalized and my camera lenses were stolen there, I haven't been inclined to revisit what was once a safe haven for me. Therefore, I haven't been taking many new photos, so I don't have any new art to share with you.

Honestly, I don't feel safe in my neighborhood, and frankly, I'm getting very annoyed with the landlord and area in general. It's not worth it anymore. So in 2015, I'm hoping for these things to happen:

Bullet; White Move to a better neighborhood
Bullet; White Find new places to take photos
Bullet; White Gain inspiration and creativity
Bullet; White Earn a raise at work
Bullet; White Be less cynical
Bullet; White Find my purpose

Today is my last day of Premium Membership. (I'm not asking for donations, just stating some facts!) I am not going to buy a new one until I can regularly start posting new art again. This year, dA disappointed me in that they didn't offer a buy one, get one free membership. They only offered the give one, get one free, and honestly, I don't really want to spend any money that I don't have to spend right now because things are tight. I hope if you're middle class or above, you know how blessed you are.

Being that it's Christmas Eve, I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope it's a good one.
Love and light to you all. Heart

Yeah, I've been saving some money (well, trying to) for about two weeks now, I guess? I used to buy breakfast & coffee  like 6 out of 7 days a week, then I'd go out to eat with friends or get food for myself like 3-4 times a week besides the breakfast and.... yeah, I was spending way too much money unnecessarily, haha. I've gotten MUCH better, but I'm not perfect. But the Mark III has really inspired me to save because it looks like a really worthy camera to own. I've read/watched so many reviews, seen sample images, read specs, and all that good stuff. Looks like the camera for me. It was going to be the Mark II, but the auto-focusing system on the Mark III was a big selling point for me. Plus the great low-lighting use I can get out of it sounds really fantastic.

Obviously a new camera body won't make my pictures 100x better or whatever, but it will certainly help. Along with some new glass and perhaps a strobe/softbox for portraits and a ring flash for nature, maybe. Depends who loves me this Christmas. ;P Just kidding, kind of.

Anyway, I set up a donation fund for my friends and family to donate to on GoFundMe.com where they can donate in exchange for a photoshoot with me. Some of them don't want a photoshoot at all; they just want to help. I was going to upgrade to a 60D before my lenses were stolen in August, but instead I had to buy new lenses, and... it set me back. So I thought, "Okay, why not just save the extra thousand or so for a dream camera?"
So I started this fund. Obviously you can donate if you want; I'll note you the link. But I can't give you a complimentary photoshoot because a) you're a stranger IRL, and b) you probably aren't in my area. But if you want to donate, I'll hand out a generous amount of faves/comments, maybe even give you some points that I've accumulated! Every cent of the donations will go to my camera upgrade and nothing else. I'm not trying to do anything official or against the DA rules; it would just be a mutual understanding. I don't really expect anyone to want to donate anyway, so this is probably all for naught.

Even so, I just wanted to let you guys know what's going on with me artistically. I have a couple of photo ideas waiting to be shot. Wish I had a nice model but eh.

As for life, everything is fine. It's a slow time of the year for the restaurant business, so my hours SUCK, but things will pick up soon, I hope. The more hours I get, the faster I can buy my new camera. Sigh.

Hope you all are doing well.

Hey guys. It's been a while since I wrote one of these. But I just wanted to get some feelings out because I'm really excited and want to remember this.

Most of you, if you have been watching me for any length of time, know that I have blonde hair. The only other color I've experimented with is red or auburn. Today, that is going to change.

Currently, I have long layered blonde hair that goes a little bit more than halfway down my back. So, it's pretty long! I had bangs for a few years, but right now, they're long gone.

So here's what you can expect. Here's what I'm anticipating getting done in three anxiety/excitement-ridden hours. Bangs straight across, like in this photo:

With BLACK hair. Or at least very, very dark hair. With maybe a bluish tint, but probably only noticeable in the sun. My hair will be cut, but only to add more layers or take a couple inches off. So it will be a bit longer than in that photo, but the general style will be the same, hopefully.

But you have no idea how excited I am to finally have dark hair, to see how it looks on me! It's spontaneous and fun. And I'm getting it done by a professional, so it's not going to look half-assed.

I know you're probably thinking, "But Casper, you're so pale. Dark hair is only going to accentuate that trait on you!"
To which I reply, "GOOD! I love pale skin, dark hair, and light eyes!"
And even if I do this and end up hating it, at least I'll have done it in my youth and I'll know never to do it again in my life.

And you're probably also thinking, "But what about your other fair features? Like your blonde eyebrows and eyelashes? Aren't you worried that it will look silly?"
To which I respond, "That's what makeup is for." -OR- "That's what dye is for."
I'm hoping to dye them so I don't have to fill in my brows every day, but if it can't be done just yet, I'll have to use makeup to darken them. Plus apply mascara so my light lashes don't look so naked.

Anyway, here's a sneak peak from two Halloweens ago when I bought a black wig. If all goes well, I'll look like this permanently:

I'll have photos up hopefully around Thursday or Friday. Wish me luck and tell me not to chicken out. ;P

Lens Theft

3 min read
I was out shooting a couple of days ago with emotive-energy and left my camera bag in my car, along with my purse and phone. We were in a peaceful cemetery, one we frequented in the past with no trouble at all, and there was no one to be seen. When we came back ten minutes later, we found my car window bashed in and my camera bag and purse were fucking MISSING.

Yes, I spent that day with a kind police officer and a cool detective. They left blood and fingerprints. So hopefully they catch the guy.

But my insurance doesn't cover the lenses that were stolen, or my phone, or any of it. Only the broken window is covered.
So I'm in the market for one or two new lenses. I guess this is my chance to upgrade? I loved the three that I had (now I only have the not-so-great kit lens because my other three were taken) but maybe this is a chance for me to take a step back and look into better quality glass rather than passable.

If anyone has any Canon lens recommendations within the realm of $300-500 each, I'm listening! Thanks.
(And yes, I'm quite traumatized but I'll be okay. It's been a shaky couple of days but it's actually inspired me artistically.)
